Stop Comparing Yourself To Others

Comparison is normal for us to do. We look at others to see how lucky or unlucky we are. For example, on a walk, you notice your friends tire out faster than you do. You compare yourself and appreciate the fact that you normally exercise. However, too much comparison is a different story.

When it’s every day that we constantly focus on others and our confidence and self-esteem depletes, this is now a problem. We end up filled with hate, jealousy, and depression. With that said, here’s how you can break the comparison trap.

Instead of dwelling on what you don’t have, acknowledge what you do have. This can be personal strengths, attributes, accomplishments, hobbies, and personal beliefs. Plus, by counting your blessings, you’ll invite more positivity in life. Don’t have anything to be thankful for? No excuses; you have a family, weekends, electronics, a bed, a house, food, water, and privacy.

As humans, we all hold a desire to seek social approval. This can be partly explained why we love “likes” so much. However, seeing no “likes” on that selfie can be damaging. One would falsely believe that no one likes them. As a result, anxiety, depression, isolation, and even anger can occur.

Conquer Yourself

You are unique. There is no one like you. So stop comparing yourself to another, but compare yourself to your past self. For instance, are you only able to do twelve pull-ups? Can you beat yourself and perform fifteen?

Truth is, life isn’t fair. Someone could be born into a rich family and have more opportunities than you. Or that person was born as a child prodigy. It’s all out of your control. There’s always a bigger fish.

Get Inspired

If you feel bad about yourself, you’re wrongly viewing comparison. Who said that you’ll never be as good as them? Most likely, you aren’t in the last moments of your life. You still have plenty of time to practice and many failures to overcome, just like your rival. Rather than seeing comparison as a belief that you’re inferior, see it as fuel for inspiration to reach your goals.
