Why Self-Compassion?

Briefly speaking, self-compassion is when we’re kind to ourselves, mentally and physically. While it’s good that we show compassion towards others, we treat ourselves with the opposite. With all the negative self-talk, our anxiety and depression only worsens. Also, you don’t have to worry about being selfish by being compassionate towards yourself. When you find support through self-compassion, you’re in a better mindset to help others. Below are some ways you can practice self-compassion:

Gratitude

Sometimes, the best thing we can do is to remember what we have. When we dwell on what we don’t have, we become more negative. You can express gratitude by writing in a gratitude journal, leaving a bigger tip, or giving a compliment.

Optimistic Thinking

Talking to ourselves as a friend can mean the difference between success and failure. Negative self-talk only derails our opportunities and dreams. When we’re friends with ourselves, we make even better friends for others.

Journal

Dealing with emotions can be challenging. By putting pen to paper, you lower your chances of anxiety and depression. Also, journaling is a great way to express your emotions in a non-judgmental place.
