4 Tips for Creating a Workout

Exercise is one of the best things we can do for our health.  It relieves stress, boosts confidence, and can help us get some shuteye at night.  Here are some tips to help you build an effective workout.

1. Include Both Cardio and Strength Training Exercises

Because cardio and strength training exercises challenge your body differently, incorporating both brings more benefits to your workout.

2. Include Unilateral Exercises

A unilateral exercise targets one arm or leg at a time, such as the one-arm dumbbell bent-over row.  Unilateral exercises ensure that both arms or legs are equally strong.

3. Make Your Workout “3D”

All too often, our workouts only include forward-and-back and side-to-side movements, which limits the amount of muscle we could be strengthening.  Add some spice to your workout by adding rotational exercises, such as the lunge-with-a-twist and the dumbbell woodchop.

4. Include Anti-Rotational Exercises

Just as our core enables us to rotate our body, it’s also meant to resist rotation.  Some anti-rotational exercises include the one-arm high plank and the dumbbell renegade row.
