5 Times You Should Skip a Workout

While exercise has many benefits, there may be times when you’re better off skipping that workout.  Here, we look at some scenarios where exercise does more harm than good.

1. You’re Sick

Exercising with a fever is a bad idea.  When you get a fever, your body temperature rises, and exercising increases it; that’s why you should only exercise if your symptoms are above the neck, like headaches, sneezing, or a sore throat.

2. You’re Sleep-Deprived

When we don’t sleep enough, our bodies can’t perform their best at the gym, increasing the odds of getting an injury.

3. Your Muscles Are VERY Sore

If your muscles are slightly sore, then a little exercise shouldn’t hurt.  However, if your muscles are so sore that you have trouble walking, then it’s probably best to give your muscles a break.

4. You Dread Your Workout

Exercise should be something you look forward to doing!  It should make you feel great and make you happier.  Jump rope, swimming, fitness games, and obstacle courses are all fun ways to exercise.

5. You’re Exhausted

Exercise helps with stress, but not always.  When you feel like your head is about to explode from so much work, squeezing in that workout can make you more stressed.
